Tova's 3rd Birthday Party
I started brainstorming for Tova's third birthday party several months in advance. Then when we found out David got his World Vision job in Seattle, I wasn't sure anything would actually happen. So much was going on, David was living across the country, and T's birthday lands right after the holiday season. But since we were moving so far away from friends and family, I decided I just had to do it. I used my main ideas and scrapped almost anything that I didn't already own (yes, we're paying both a mortgage and rent now - let me know if you're interested in buying or renting our house in Lakeland, Florida!!!) If you've kept up with us over the past few years, you know that I've planned outdoor parties for Tova every year, to be rained or frozen out. I assumed there was no lesson to be learned, and went ahead and planned a family picnic while everyone was still in town for Christmas. The party was on December 31st in central Florida. I might be a little jealous of some warm Florida sunshine right about now... ;)
Details: For the location, we found a good spot of grass at Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, Florida.
I bought some great pink and white fabrics and cut them into squares. I didn't have time to finish the edges, and I like how the sacks (that can be reused as bandanas!?) looked with raw edges. My mom helped me put together simple lunches for everyone - a sandwich, kettle chips, carrots, a box of clementines, and organic juice with bottled water.
The straws were leftovers from previous parties.
The pink napkins with white polka dots were a quick grab from Target.
We were running late getting the balloons blown up, which I had planned to string all around the picnic spot with some pink and white lanterns that ended up unused. The small bunch we finished ended up flying away.
The cake was vanilla, the recipe from Organic and Chic by Sarah Magid, which I always reference for baking. The icing was beautiful pink strawberry (I think I used this recipe). The cupcake liners were pink and white gingham, from the craft store. Yet another variation on a tiny pink cake for the tot.
Tova's headband is just strips of fabric braided together, idea from My Cakies.
It was a lovely day.

Bangkok, Thailand
They're here! Thank you for being so patient amongst the chaos of the past several months. I hope these images more than satisfy your expectations! (Maybe I've been feeling some pressure!? ;) ) These were all taken on my Contax 645 while in Bangkok. Our time in Sisaket for Som and Tik's wedding was spent either on the wedding or with their family, in which case I didn't bring my Contax along. I regret that somewhat, but really enjoy the memories we made. Thankfully, I always keep my iPhone on me and have a few shots here and there from the incredible meals we shared. The Sisaket photos will come in another post.
I hope you have a good internet connection...
A fun note is that these are the totality of the photos I took - well, all but three (two were duplicates and another I didn't like). I wasn't crazy snap happy, but I really love what I captured. I hope you do, too! [If you'd like to know where a photo was taken, click it to see the description on Flickr.]
And here are the iPhone shots:
November 24th, Thanksgiving Day: Breakfast at Bangkok Loft Inn, Grand Palace, Royal Temple, tuk tuk ride (they're paid in gas money by business to make stops - not a recommended mode of travel - take a taxi), Wat Po, Siam Paragon, Eat Me for dinner, Sky Tram (highly recommended - one of the best systems we've seen.)
November 25th: Breakfast at Bangkok Loft Inn, Wat Arun and the gardens by the Chao Phraya River, check in to Hansar Hotel, Siam Niramit night show, Long Table for dinner.
November 26th, my 27th birthday: Thai massage at Hansar Hotel, check out, fly to Sisaket.
November 29th: Great American Rib Company, because David needs to try ribs on every continent.
The trip was absolutely incredible, and it still feels a bit like a dream. I can't wait for you to see Som and Tik's wedding - alas, I'll have to save that for later.
Prints are now available in my Print Shop! All photos are developed, scanned, and then printed by Richard Photo Lab - amazing quality and materials. You can purchase any of the Contax prints above, so give in to the one (or more!) that grabs your heart!
Have a great week!
Xoxo, Kallie
